The Formula Pro USA Western Championship broke new ground this past weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California. For Rounds 5 & 6, the series made its debut as a featured headline event at the Thunderhill Open, and the 4.61-kilometre East circuit presented a completely different challenge from anything the field had faced so far this season. Significant winds swept through the facility throughout the weekend, making car balance and consistency a moving target for every team in the paddock. Combined with the circuit's pronounced elevation changes and a series of blind corners that demand total commitment and trust from a driver, Thunderhill tested every competitor in ways that Sonoma simply does not. For Lucas Hand and the Kiwi Motorsport team, it was a weekend that demanded rapid adaptation and sharp racecraft — and the weekend also marked a milestone for the series itself, with races broadcast live for the first time via track cameras and live commentary on The Racing Network on YouTube, giving fans around the world a front-row seat to the action.
Through practice and qualifying, Lucas quickly found his footing and established himself firmly at the front of the FPUSA-4 field. World Speed Motorsports' Erik Doan had a strong weekend and managed to hold a narrow edge throughout, taking the race wins and fastest laps in both races. Race 1 saw a competitive opening lap battle between the two, and while Doan was able to maintain his position out front, Lucas pushed hard throughout and the Kiwi Motorsport team worked diligently between sessions to close the gap. Race 2 was much the same story, with Lucas securing a solid P2 finish to back up his Saturday result. Importantly, Lucas retains the FPUSA-4 championship lead heading into the second half of the season — a testament to the consistency and points-scoring discipline he has shown across all six rounds. Rounding out a strong team performance, Kiwi Motorsport teammate Mauricio claimed P3 in Race 2, while Chloe delivered a pair of excellent results in the Women's Racing Series, finishing P3 in Race 1 and P2 in Race 2. The championship battle continues at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for Rounds 7 & 8 on June 26–28.
